Pakiv
European Network was born out of the Pakiv European Roma Fund Leadership and
Management initiative, launched in 2000, with support from the World Bank,
amongst others. From 2001-2003, around 45 young Roma from Bulgaria, Hungary,
Romania and Slovakia were
selected to participate in an international capacity building program, to
strengthen young Roma leadership and participation in efforts to further
inclusion of the Roma. The intensive, international and sustained process
continues to represent a unique methodology for building capacities amongst
young Roma, and creating the knowledge and skills for integrating into their
societies and furthering Roma inclusion efforts. After 7-9 years since completing
the training, we may speak of significant achievements of the program, both in
relation to the former trainees themselves and also the subsequent European
networking amongst both Roma and non-Roma working for positive social change.
